A dive into Cambodia

Cambodia. What a contrast. What a country! Where to begin? On the one hand it has this massive cultural heritage: The huge temple complex called Angkor Wat are symbols of the massive power the Khmer Empire used to have centuries ago. They ruled whole Indochina and Angkor was the biggest city in the world with 0.1% of the worlds population. And now?

Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in the world. And it’s not only a lack of money, it also faces a lack of identity. But why this heavy contrast? The totalitarian dictator Pol Pot and his “Khmer Rouge” have killed approximately 1/3 of Cambodias population in his war against education.

With this background in mind, it’s unbelievable how nice and friendly the people of Cambodia welcomed us.
